Salida Christian Schools
Son Shine Inn
SSI was started as a ministry of Temple Baptist Church. It is now an independent non-denominational Christian preschool operating under Salida Christian School, Inc. The objectives of SSI are to promote each child’s social, physical, emotional and academic development in a pleasant Christian setting, and to enhance and expand the parent’s relationship with the child and the school.
Son Shine Inn is licensed by the state of Colorado and meets standards set by the health and fire departments. Teachers and staff meet requirements set forth by the State Department of Social Services. We also have new staff at Son Shine Inn. Catrina has resigned and been replaced by Christina Forro. Christina and Mike also have a child in Kindergarten at SCS. Ashley Cooper will also be leaving at the end of December as she is expecting her first child and will be replaced in January by Kelly Donahue.
Our greatest opportunity is to introduce the love of Christ to so many children of Salida and the surrounding area. As a Christian preschool, our curriculum includes daily Bible stories, songs and prayers. We give the individual attention each child needs in a nurturing environment.
Salida Christian Elementary School
Salida Christian Elementary School also was started by Temple Baptist Church and became independent in 2007. As part of Salida Christian School, Inc., it currently meets in the facilities of Temple Baptist Church. As a non-denominational Christian school, we want our students to leave SCS with knowledge in their heads, but most of all Jesus in their hearts. We want each child to learn about the plan God has for their life.
Our students are able to achieve both spiritually and academically due to the outstanding Abeka curriculum and the committed and qualified staff. Scores from the Stanford 10 battery of tests revealed that our students score well above the national average. School is well underway and our teachers this year are: Samantha Collins – Kindergarten; Jessica Weeks- First & Second Grade; and Valerie Baker- Third Grade. Danielle York is our Computer teacher and we will be sad to see her go at the end of December. The Sand Dunes will have her full time plus. Ericka Anderson will be taking her classes on Monday afternoons.
Salida Christian School Update:
We are in need of two more board members from Temple Baptist Church. Over the summer, Becky Curry resigned due to health issues. According to our current bylaws, we need to have a majority of board members from Temple Baptist. Currently, only 3 of the board are from TBC and 4 are from other churches. If you are interested, please contact Stuart Anderson.
Please keep all of our programs in your prayers. Our enrollment is lower than we need to support the school. We are thankful for individual donors and churches that continue to support the school. This is The Lord’s School and He is continuing to provide the miracles to keep it open in Salida. Please pray for all of the staff, families, and the school board.
Thank you so very much for the use of the facilities owned by Temple Baptist Church. None of these programs would be available in our community without this support. We are in need of volunteers in the office, to help cook lunch on Fridays, and to help with special events. If you have suggestions or wish to volunteer, please contact Linda Haltom at 207-4443.
